Zoning Resources

GIS and Analytics: A collection of maps and apps our organization makes available to the general public, including the Interactive Town Map. Use the Interactive Town Map to determine your property's zoning district or if it's within a Special Protection Area.

Dimensional Standards and Matrix: The standards and table determine the setback and dimensional requirements for your zoning district; they are part of section 3.8 of the Land Use Management Ordinance (LUMO).

Other Departments You Might Need

Building and Development Services:

  • Apply for Residential Permits for single-family homes, duplexes, and townhouses
  • Apply for Sign Permits, Wireless Facility Permits, and any permits for interior work
  • Schedule inspections, contact field inspectors, or fill out a Code Violation complaint

Manager's Office:

  • Visit the Sidewalk Dining page to apply for a sidewalk dining permit, which allows restaurants to use public sidewalk or right-of-way to serve food or beverages anywhere in Chapel Hill.
