Cemeteries

Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation maintains the grounds and the Town's records for four local cemeteries. Two of our Chapel Hill Cemeteries are historical cemeteries with deep cultural value to the community.

Cemetery News

We're pleased to announce that we've opened Section U at the Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery, which will provide new burial and cremation plot options. With an additional 723 traditional burial plots and 450 cremation plots, Section U will help ensure that the cemetery continues to serve families for years to come.

We've also updated our cemetery fees for the first time since 2005. Costs have increased over the past twenty years, and revising the fee schedule helps support the ongoing maintenance and sustainability of cemetery operations.

Current cemetery fees include:

  • Traditional burial plot: $1,500 resident / $3,000 non-resident
  • Cremation plot: $700 resident / $1,400 non-resident
  • Columbarium niche: $1,100 per compartment
