Planning Commission

The Planning Commission assists the Council in achieving the Town’s comprehensive plan for orderly growth and development by analyzing, evaluating and recommending responsible town policies, ordinances and planning standards that manage land use and involving the community in long-range planning.

Council Regular Meeting

At these meetings, Council takes official actions, such as presenting proclamations, holding public hearings, and amending ordinances. For items not on the agenda, public comment is welcome at the beginning of the meeting. For items on the agenda, public comment is welcome when the item is discussed. Agendas are typically posted the Thursday before, and videos are posted the day after the meeting.

Community Design Commission

The Community Design Commission assists the Council in guiding the Town’s vision on aesthetics, character and function to focus community growth through advice, advocacy, and implementation of the council’s policies and review of proposed development in key areas of the community.

Town Council holds business meetings to discuss and take official action on items. They hear public comment for items not on the agenda at the beginning of the meeting. They hear public comment for items on the agenda during that item's discussion.

Council Work Session

Town Council periodically holds Work Sessions to informally discuss issues and receive presentations. They don't take any official actions. The sessions are open to the public, but there is no public comment period. Work sessions are not live streamed, but videos are posted the day after the meeting.

Criminal Justice Debt Program Advisory Committee

This committee, in conjunction with the Chapel Hill Police Crisis Unit, administers the Chapel Hill Criminal Justice Debt Program, which provides criminal justice-related debt relief to indigent Chapel Hill residents who are taking steps to successfully reintegrate into the community but whose ability to do so hampered by this debt.
