Make a Gift to the Town of Chapel Hill
Your gift to the Town of Chapel Hill can help us do more for our community.
While public tax dollars fund the Town’s facilities, services, and programs, we know that private funds can help us go further. Private gifts and donations have helped shape Chapel Hill, from the gift of land that became Pritchard Park to the Cornelia Spencer Love Library Trust to the future Bill and Peggy Britt greenway and trail extensions.
We take stewardship of both public and private funds seriously. As a local government, we will always invest in the essentials we are obligated to provide. Private gifts don’t replace that commitment — they supplement our work and increase our impact. And as with our annual budget, we have ways to earmark, track, and report on how we use gifts and donations.
Below are just some examples of how your gift might help our community. If you are interested in supplementing an area of our work that isn’t listed here, we’re happy to talk about your interests and help find the best match. Please note that there are local policies and state statues that govern who we can/can’t take money from – and for what purpose.
- Housing Assistance - During emergencies like COVID and Tropical Strom Chantal, private donations can help lower income residents with rent, utilities, and basic needs.
- Climate Action – Our Climate Action goals include solarizing our buildings and electrifying our fleet so that we can model what we want to see more of in the world. Private dollars can be a force multiplier for this important – and often very expensive – work.
- Greenways – Our vision for Everywhere to Everywhere Greenways is big, bold, ambitious – and expensive. Private donations help us move our plans into actions that result in more connectivity for all.
- Library - In addition to giving to the Library Friends and Foundation, people can give directly to the Library. This often comes in the form of donations to purchase books in order to celebrate a milestone or honor a loved one who has passed.
- Parks & Recreation – In addition to giving to the Friends of Parks, Recreation, and Greenways, people can give directly to Parks & Recreation. This can fund a range of things, from benches to basketball courts to buildings.
