CARE Team Extending Operating Hours Starting April 6
Published on April 06, 2026
The Crisis Assistance, Response, and Engagement (CARE) team is extending its operating hours. Teams will now be ready to serve Chapel Hill and Carrboro Monday-Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
“Following a successful first year, we are excited that the Crisis Assistance Response and Engagement (CARE) Team is expanding our hours of service on April 6. This growth means we can be there for more community members when they need us most,” said Crisis Division Manager, Sarah Belcher.
“We are deeply grateful for the support provided by the Department of Health and Human Services to Alliance Health, which has made this expansion possible.”
The CARE team responds to a variety of 911 and crisis calls that do not require a law enforcement response. The team is a partnership between Orange County and the towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro.
The team responds both in-person and by phone, provides a therapeutic and holistic response to crisis calls, which is an evidence-based best practice.
The mobile portion of the CARE team consists of a crisis counselor, a peer support specialist – someone who has lived experience with challenges vulnerable community members face – and a community emergency medical technician.
Anyone in Chapel Hill or Carrboro can contact the team by calling 911 or 919-732-5063, which is Orange County’s non-emergency number.
