At 6:10am, the Chapel Hill Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at a duplex on Old University Station Road at Weaver Dairy Road. When firefighters arrived, they could see flames coming from the back of one of the two units in the building.
“We’re grateful to share there are no reports of injuries,” said Fire Chief Jay Mebane. “Our partners at the American Red Cross are responding to help eight people who can’t return to their homes due to the damage.”
The fire was contained to one unit, while the second unit has smoke and water damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
“I’m deeply appreciative of our fire rescue crews who responded quickly and stopped the fire from spreading to the neighboring unit,” said Chief Mebane.
