Transit

Transit bus in downtown Chapel Hill

Our mission is to provide safe, convenient, reliable, and responsive public transportation services to residents and visitors of the Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and University of North Carolina communities; to be accessible, efficiently operated, and supportive of a healthy environment and a sustainable local economy; and to connect and coordinate with other transportation means in the area.

We provide over 7 million rides per year, drive 2 million miles per year, cover 62 square miles, employ 220 people, and serve 21 routes, 7 days a week.

We celebrated our 50th Anniversary in 2024, including over 20 years of being fare-free thanks to the partnerships between the Town of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, the University, and the support of federal grants.

Chapel Hill Transit is made up of three divisions, including the Administrative Division, the Operations Division and the Maintenance Division.
