In October 2016, Council established a committee to consider possible future use of the Historic Town Hall facilities at 100 W. Rosemary St. as a visitors and history center, culminating with a report and recommendation to Council. At the time of the committee's work, the Inter-Faith Council for Social Services made plans to leave Historic Town Hall, which the Town of Chapel Hill owns.
Council accepted the committee's final report and recommendations at their June 26, 2017 business meeting. View the meeting materials.

On June 27, 2016, Council received a petition regarding combining the Visitor's Center and Chapel Hill Museum at this facility. Because the Inter-Faith Council for Social Services planned to leave the building, we needed a recommendation for future use and occupancy of the building. The committee responded to the petition by considering the possibility of uses. Read the petition.
The goal of the committee was to represent the interests of the Town of Chapel Hill and Orange County to consider renovating the Historic Town Hall building as a Visitor's Center, a History Center, or both. The Chapel Hill and Orange County Visitor's Bureau, Chapel Hill Historical Society, and/or Chapel Hill Museum, respectively, would occupy the space.
The Historic Town Hall Committee met several times between November 2016 and May 2017.
