Police Investigate Gunfire on N. Roberson St.

Update (3/26/2026 6:15pm):Amir Geovonne James, 19, of Mebane, is charged with the following:

 

  • Discharge Firearm Enclosed Space to Incite Fear

  • Assault with a Deadly Weapon

  • Discharge Firearm in City Limits

  • Go Armed to Terror of People

 

James was arrested on March 25 with the help of the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals Service, and FBI Safe Streets. He is being held at the Orange County Detention Center on $250,000 bond.

 

The investigation is ongoing.

 

Previously released (3/16/2026 6pm): At 4:44pm, the Chapel Hill Police Department responded to a report of gunfire on N. Roberson Street between W. Franklin and W. Rosemary Streets. Investigators determined one person shot at another person, then left the area. There are no reports of injuries.

Investigators believe this was an isolated incident and they are working to identify and locate a suspect.
