NCDOT to begin resurfacing Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and Columbia St. between Estes Drive and Franklin Street on Monday, June 1. Expect overnight delays.
As part of our annual street resurfacing process, we look for opportunities to improve safety and mobility for everyone on Chapel Hill streets. Not only do we improve the quality of the pavement and adjust markings and signage, but we also implement recommendations from our adopted Mobility and Connectivity Plan when we can. Although resurfacing doesn't widen roads or add sidewalks, it often allows us to add bike lanes where there currently aren't any.
NCDOT has a similar resurfacing process and consults with us to identify opportunities for improvements on State-owned roads.
